Meet Elaine Wirrell, MD
In this Researcher Spotlight meet DSF’s Medical Advisory Board (MAB) member, Elaine Wirrell, MD.
Dr. Wirrell is passionate about improving the lives of children with epilepsy, appreciating the tremendous impact this condition has on the entire family, and the critical importance of addressing seizures and comorbidities. Last month, Dr. Wirrell was presented with the prestigious J. Kiffin Penry Award for Excellence in Epilepsy Care at the American Epilepsy Society (AES) annual meeting. This award, supported by the AES J. Kiffin Penry Fund, was established in 1997 in honor of Dr. Penry’s lifelong focus on, and genuine concern for, patients with epilepsy. It recognizes individuals whose work has had a major impact on patient care and an improvement in the quality of life for persons with epilepsy.
As a DSF MAB member, Elaine provides strategic advice and counsel to support the mission of DSF; offers input on clinical trials that impact the Dravet community; serve as a representative link between DSF and the medical community; and updates the best practices for the North American Dravet Syndrome Treatment Consensus.
