Wanxuan

Wanxuan

Wanxuan comes from an ordinary family in China and was born in a city near the sea. There are three sisters in the family. She was the youngest, and her second sister was also autistic. We all love the sea.

When did Wanxuan’s seizures begin?

She had her first attack when she was almost six months old. That morning she had a low-grade fever, and her whole body shook in her sleep. We rushed to the hospital in terror. In the following time, she had several seizures, and there was no cause! When she was nine months old, we had a genetic test and it turned out to be a mutation in the SCN1A gene.

What is your family’s hope for your future? For the Dravet community?

I hope there is a cure for DRAVET so she can enjoy the beach. Hopefully the DRAVET community will be able to solve our problem of getting medicines.

What advice do you have for newly diagnosed families?

Persistence is victory, to maintain an optimistic and positive attitude towards life!
