60 Minutes for Advocacy?

Request Meetings with Your Congressional Offices

If you have more time, requesting and holding a meeting with your congressional o—ces gives you more time to explain your concerns, ask questions, and ask for their support. For each member of Congress you reach out to, it can take at least one hour total to request the meeting, get the meeting scheduled and hold the meeting. But if you have the time—it is worth it!!

Establishing and strengthening relationships with your members of Congress and their staff fuels impactful year-round advocacy and the ability to reach out to your members of Congress on different issues and grow them as epilepsy champions. Remember that Congressional offices receive many meeting requests, so don’t worry if you don’t hear back right away. If it’s been longer than a week without a response, you should follow-up and send a reminder about your request.

Tips on identifying your members of Congress, sample language to request a meeting, and tips for meetings can be found in this helpful toolkit put together by the Epilepsy Foundation.
