Parents and caregivers! We do so much for those we love, diligently and meticulously taking care of their needs and finding ways to give them the joy, dignity, and opportunities they deserve. Are we being person-centered? Being person-centered is a term often misused and misunderstood. If we are not feeling vulnerable, listening to others and welcoming their voices into the conversation, listening and holding the space for our loved ones, and pushing our fears aside to allow the dignity of risk, we are not being truly person-centered. Let’s talk about how to shift our thinking, re-frame our perspectives, and apply strategies that truly steward the humanity of those we love.
During this 75-minute workshop, we will discuss:
• The principles of person-centered practices
• The importance of deep listening and including many voices in creating a well-rounded, healthy profile of our loved ones for future decision-making
• Our own vulnerabilities as caregivers; letting go slowly and safely and opening ourselves up to possibility
• Strategies to maintain the principles while working with systems
